MICROCHIP IMPLANTS AS AN OFFICIAL FORM OF IDENTIFICATION FOR PET BIRDS

August 12, 2002
Federal Register: (Volume 67, Number 155)

DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE
9 CFR Part 93

AGENCY: Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, USDA.
ACTION: Final rule.

SUMMARY: We are amending the regulations to allow the use of microchip
implants as an acceptable form of identification for pet birds of U.S.
origin returning to this country after being outside the United States.
The
regulations have previously provided only for the use of leg bands or
tattoos to identify such birds, but microchips have become the preferred
method of identification used by avian veterinary practitioners. This
action
provides for the use of an additional means of identifying certain U.S.
origin pet birds while continuing to provide protection against the
introduction of communicable poultry diseases into the United States.
EFFECTIVE DATE: September 11, 2002.

ANIMAL WELFARE ACT NOW INCLUDE BIRDS

USDA INFORMS AFA THAT ANIMAL WELFARE ACT WILL  NOW INCLUDE BIRDS

The U.S. Department of Agriculture/APHIS/Animal Care (USDA) has recently
received a verbal legal opinion that, contrary to the initial
understanding, the final language in the amended Animal Welfare Act (AWA)

indicates that birds and certain rats and mice (except for those forms
bred
specifically for research) are required to be covered under the Act.
Thus,
at this time, USDA is planning to proceed with a Proposed Rulemaking
which
will describe the scope of licensing requirements, minimum standards
requirements, inspections of facilities and who will be covered under
this
new law. Breeders, dealers, transporters, exhibitors, and carriers are

How to Write a Pet Classified Ad or Pet Classifieds

Author: Yago Lotanna © 2006

So you have decided you have way too many puppies or that cockatoo you got from a friends cousin is way too talkative for you. Or maybe you work for a shelter and now you want to write a pet classified that will get response.

By the time you are done reading this article, you will be able to write a pet classified ad that will not only get response but will ensure that your beloved pet gets a new home. So let’s begin. How do I start?  Well simple. First and foremost you must;

  • Get the attention of the reader

Start your ad with an emotion packed opening statement. Here is the important structure of a pet classified that gets results.

  •
    1. Your headline
    2. An opening sentence
    3. The body of  your ad
    4. The closing remarks and contact inf0

Here are some examples of opening sentence.

(a)    Handsome, talkative  African Grey Parrot looking for a new home

(b)   Siamese kittens with blue adorable eyes

(c)    House broken, Kid friendly AKC  Poodle

After your emotion parked opening statement,

-         Make a guarantee or promise
For example “ You will not be disappointed by the quality of this breed”

-         Back it up with credentials
for example “Mother is AKC champion”. “ Used to belong to so so and so who did so so and do”

-         Ask for action.

For example “contact me now for more picture ‘“Contact me now and take delivery before Christmas”

If you have followed all this instructions, makes sure your online ad has a picture of your pet. Statistically pet classifieds ads with pictures on the ad get better response. And finally please do not write your entire ad in block letters. Studies have also shown that they are harder to read and annoying to a lot of people.
