Matakee

My husband walked our Malamute, Sheba through the neighborhood and noticed
every time he passed by one house that there was a young wolf tied by chain to
a tree.  No shelter, starving and no water to be seen.  As my husband
continued the walks to observe any changes to his environment for his
care....he noticed that through any kind of weather...nothing changed for the
Wolf.  Soon, we reported the situation to the animal control.  They came out
the next day...they sited the owner with warnings he must take care of he had
to give the Wolf up to proper care.  My husband walked to the house and
offered to buy the wolf....he accepted.
Don named the Wolf, Matakee....he slept with him in his kennel and hand fed
him each day.  Wolves do not forget...so Matakee was very untrusting and
timid.  But over time...Don earned Matakee's trust so deeply that the bond of
Love formed between the two of them could be like no other either one had
ever known.
Medical attention was needed for Matakee and he nearly died trying to recover
from the abuse and starvation he had suffered with his previous owner.  Soon,
he was as healthy as he could be and became the loyal love of our life.  We
have shared our lives with Matakee for 11 years.  Only two weeks ago..we
noticed he was not himself...he was slowing down and not eating much.  After
taking him to our Vet, we learned through an ultra-sound that he had a very
aggressive form of cancer around his spleen and kidneys.  The Doctor said the
cancer was so aggressive that within 3 days, Matakee would be in great pain.
We should think about putting him to sleep within a day or two.  Matakee
loved to walk through the park and swim and chase little critters.  March
7th...Matakee went on his last walk with Don through the park.
On March 8th....Matakee went to stay over the Rainbow Bridge.  We know his
spirit is free and that he can run forever with no pain or problems.  And we
know that he will wait his turn to put his nose in the air...to smell his
earthly companion  coming over the bridge to meet him....and that union will
last in heaven forever and ever....never to be separated again. He is deeply
missed and loved forever...when he left...he took a part of our hearts with
him.
Thank you for letting us share...God Bless
