Pet of the Week - August , Jericho and corky

Corky

Meet Corky, our newest kitty.  The neighborhood kids know a sucker when they see one.  We had 3 cats, now we have 4!  The kids said they found him and couldn't keep him, and our hearts melted when we saw him.  He was only about 4-5 weeks old, weighed less than a pound, and one of his eyes was glued shut due to a bad cold.  After a few weeks of some loving, vet visits, medicine, and lots of food and attention, look at him now!  He and Jericho (our other cat) are best buddies.  She's kind of taken over the "mom" duties.  She washes him, plays with him, and is teaching him all of her sneaky tricks. The other cats haven't paled up yet, but they'll eventually get used to him.  Needless to say, we have a busy litter box in this house.

A Thanksgiving scare
It's amazing how she has taken over the mother responsibilities for this kitten. Now August is also starting to bathe and play with him. They ALL run thru the house playing with their little furry mice. It's comical to watch them slide on our hardwood floors. No traction here! We had quite a scare on Thanksgiving Day. Jericho is normally an inside cat, but she likes to go on the deck for a few minutes at a time. Charlie let her out that morning with August and our older cat Wingnut. A few minutes later, he heard a cat fight. We couldn't find Jericho after that. We searched all day. Under the house, the deck, the storage buildings, the neighborhood and nearby woods. No Jericho. We were heartbroken. The kitten even cried for her. Neither of us felt like eating. We searched more up until dark. It was cold out. We left the porch light on for her, and checked periodically for her. We figured something. a dog, raccoon, or another cat must have gotten her. I went on to bed early. I was exhausted from the stressful day. Charlie stayed up for awhile longer. At about 9:00, he woke me up. "Look who showed up," he whispered. "Jeri!" Boy, were we relieved. So was she! She was ok, but very hungry. We figure she must have been chased off to a neighbors trailer, and either got locked in a building or spent the day inside someone's house. Anyway, Jeri is now "grounded" for a while. The little kitten depends on her too much right now. What a Thanksgiving THAT was!

This is August and Jericho.
A cute story behind these two...
August showed up as a small kitten last Sept. after a hurricane. We took her in, she was so cute. A few months later, I came home and picked her up off of the deck and went into the house. When I got into the house, I realized that it wasn't August, it was another one! We figured they must be sisters. The vet told us different. Jericho was actually the mother! She is about 1-1/2 years old, but only weighs 5 lbs. She will always be the size of a kitten! Although the picture is in black and white, they are black, white and tan colored. They look like negatives of each other, huh?
These two are so good to each other. They run through the house and play tag. They eat and sleep together. August is growing up now, and getting out of the kitten stage. But Jericho still plays like a kitten! She loves to steal things like pencils and chapstick off of the counter and bats them around on the floor. We find all kind of missing things when we clean house. She also helps me on the computer. (if there are any miss-spelled words her, it's her fault) They both love Whisker Licking' Crunchy treats, and those furry mice that have the long tails.
Thanks, we enjoy your site!

Michele, August, Jericho
